On-Site Energy
Cost and carbon reduction specialist, On-Site Energy Ltd, was involved in a multi-million-pound Combined Heat & Power (CHP) project at an automotive manufacturing plant in Merseyside and required a procurement partner for the gas and remaining electricity import to the site.
“Red Hawk came recommended to us and we started a conversation. While we were also recommended to speak to other energy consultants, Red Hawk stood out from the rest. We found them to be very transparent and felt they were more likely to offer us personal attention.”
Challenge
The site is part of a global business with a target to reach Net Zero by 2035 using local renewables.
David Jamieson, Sales Director at On-Site Energy, said: “CHP technology is becoming increasingly popular among energy intensive manufacturers like these due to its operational efficiency and the consequential reduction in costs and carbon emissions.
“A key part of our partnership model is the management and delivery of the agreed upon energy projects, in this case two CHPs. We draw upon our extensive multi-utility infrastructure design and installation capabilities, and experience in delivering these solutions to support our customers’ energy infrastructure requirements.
“But we also needed a procurement partner for the gas import required for the CHP, as well as for the remaining electricity import and export to the grid.”
“Red Hawk came recommended to us and we started a conversation. While we were also recommended to speak to other energy consultants, Red Hawk stood out from the rest. We found them to be very transparent and felt they were more likely to offer us personal attention.”
Solution
At the time of implementation, the energy markets had started to become extremely volatile.
Billy Ingham, Managing Director at Red Hawk, said: “After considering all options for the site, it was agreed that a full flexible offering for both import and export would be the most beneficial solution, enabling them to take advantage of day ahead market strategy gains hedging as volatility and risk premiums peaked.
“This solution required amends to meters and organising MOP/DC agreements, all of which we were able to offer and coordinate for On-Site and their client.”
Result
On Site and Red Hawk now speak several times every week to ensure a consistency of service for the client. Both parties are very happy with the levels of service provided to the client and Red Hawk’s continual monitoring of the markets provides peace of mind that the site’s energy is being managed effectively.
The site has also been granted Good Quality CHP status after achieving the required power efficiency threshold.
